From an Alpine Pasture Business to a Après-Ski Lounge & Restaurant
The name “SennBar” emerged from our family’s history. In 1934 Theodor and Theresia Krings bought a part of the Seekaralpe in Obertauern as a summer pasture for their own cattle, sheep and horses.
From this point onwards, there was always a shepherd on Seekaralm and since 1945 Senn was producing milk, butter, and cheese. Theodor and Manfred Krings spent several summers here as shepherds and Hilde and Gerhard Krings were also shepherds and dairymaids/men.
In memory of our humble beginnings, where only a few hikers were supplied with fresh alpine products, we have chosen the name “SennBar” for our bar at the Seekarspitzbahn at the Obertauern Ski Resort.
In 1957 the three brothers Theodor, Gerhard und Manfred Krings formed a silent partnership and built, with a lot of effort and willingness to take risks, the first small tow lift system on Grünwaldsee in Obertauern. The small tow lift system was the first of many tow lifts and chair lifts to come after.
In 1969/70 the foundation for Kringsalm was laid, which was then followed by Hochalm in 1980 and Appartementhaus Christophorus in 1984. Finally in 1992, Seekarhaus was acquired by the Austrian Alpine Association.
Regular enhancements and renovations allowed Kringsalm to develop steadily. The last renovation took place in the summer of 2014. Today, with a Self-Service Restaurant, À-La-Carte Restaurant, Après-Ski Lounge and sun terrace, Kringsalm is a popular meeting place in Obertauern.
